Injury Related Pain

There can be many different sensations of pain and the type of pain you experience when you injure yourself is different from the normal post-workout burn that every athlete experiences. Muscle soreness is more of a mild, continual aching and therefore is highly manageable. Pain from injury is on a completely different level and often includes sharp stabbing pains; it can even put you out of action completely. You can’t risk continuing to exercise when you are dealing with an injury whereas in contrast, many people enjoy pushing themselves through the burn-related to muscle soreness.

The most common types of sports injuries include:

  • Sprains: Tearing or overstretching your ligaments results in a sprain and they commonly occur on or around your ankles.
  • Strains: Overstretching or tearing the tendons connecting your muscles and bones are called strains and they usually happen in your back and/or hamstrings.
  • Dislocations: When the normal position of a joint is jolted or stretched out of placed through a sports accident.
  • Concussions: A head injury that usually occurs when your head is forcefully knocked against a hard surface. This causes your brain to temporarily shake from its resting place, and can cause short to long term disabilities depending on your circumstances.
