Here’s How to Get Your Morning Boost if You’re Quitting Caffeine
What is CBD oil and how do I find what's right for me-01

Caffeine isn’t helping anxiety for millions of Americans! If you’re going coffee-free, natural energy boosts can help get you through the worst Monday-morning fatigue.

Some folks are quitting coffee because it’s not serving them anymore. Research says that high doses of caffeine can cause anxiety symptoms like shaky hands, nervousness, agitation, sleeplessness, and a fast heart rate, especially in people with panic disorder or social anxiety disorder.

Another study says that way too much caffeine can cause symptoms that mimic sleep and anxiety disorders and even psychotic disorders!

Many people swear by coffee (seriously, they’ll cut you if you try to take their cup) and handle it just fine. But others find that even a little coffee makes them anxious and cancels out the feel-good energy of caffeine.

If you’re one of the folks who feel worse when you drink coffee, that’s okay—you CAN start your day with caffeine-free energy (but none of the anxiety).

Wondering what’s the best alternative to coffee in the morning?

Our energy reserves are shockingly good at replenishing themselves when we give them a chance. To get your energy back when you quit coffee, try a combination of lifestyle changes (like better nutrition and hydration) and coping mechanisms for focus and soothing. (Like drinking tea or taking CBD energy gummies!)

Check out these 6 tips for boosting energy coffee-free:

1. Up your vitamin intake

Being tired can be a sign that you’re deficient in vitamins or minerals. You can boost your energy by taking vitamins that are well-known for their positive effects on energy (like B-complex vitamins, vitamin D3, and iron).

Vitamin D3 and B-complex vitamins are both pretty safe to take routinely, though D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means you can take too much. And check with your doctor before supplementing with iron. You may need bloodwork to check your levels first.

2. Drink (or eat) more electrolytes

Low electrolytes can drag you down and make you feel like crawling back into bed before you’ve even hit the shower! Electrolytes are minerals that your body uses to maintain hydration, move nutrients around, and allow your nerves, muscles, brain, and heart to work.

They include:

  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Phosphate
  • Chloride
  • Bicarbonate

WAY too many electrolyte drinks on the market have a ton of sugar or other unnecessary ingredients. Instead of the famous brands packed with sugar (which can lead to a crash and have you falling asleep on Zoom!), try low-sugar options. Otherwise, you can get electrolytes from the foods you eat. From spinach to soybeans and dairy to chicken, there is something on this list you’ll like.

3. Sip on hot or cool mint tea

Peppermint tea can help you feel energetic and stimulated enough to start your day, which is usually all the motivation you need to KILL IT at work! The natural, fresh cooling flavor of mint kind of wakes you up like a splash of cold water to the face (without the indignation).

Science says mint works, too. In one study, peppermint oil reduced fatigue during a cognitive test. Another study showed that peppermint oil reduced daytime sleepiness

4. Move your body

Just getting up and moving around for a few minutes is enough to boost energy levels! The benefits of exercise include

  • Increased endorphins, which can motivate you to get things done
  • Better heart health, which means you have better endurance and don’t get so tired so early
  • Better sleep, so you’re super rested when the alarm goes off
  • Better focus, which translates to mental energy

It doesn’t even have to be a gym day. Just get up and walk around or stretch for 5 minutes every hour. Go on a short walk outside if you fancy it! Energy’s not a zero-sum game—you can actually increase it by expending it, in this case!

5. Fuel up on fats

Fat is the most energy-dense source of calories, but the right fats are also havens for energy-supporting fatty acids like omega-3s. You might transform your energy reserves at work by simply having avocado toast for breakfast and bringing some nuts as a desk-friendly snack!

You can choose from sources of fatty acids that include:

  • Avocados
  • Nuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Flaxseeds
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Coconut oil

6. Toss back some CBD

Cannabidiol can help you cope with excessive worry. It can slow down the never-ending stream of thoughts in the AM, so you can relax and focus on what’s in front of you instead of your mental to-do list.

Try making CBD gummies part of your night or day routine, or both. CBD is one of the best alternatives to caffeine to concentrate. You might not even miss coffee!
