NOT FEELING CBD? 4 REASONS CBD ISN'T WORKING FOR YOU

NOT FEELING CBD? 4 REASONS CBD ISN'T WORKING FOR YOU

CBD not working? Tips on troubleshooting your dosing regimen for better results!

Trying to get your CBD chill on but finding that it’s just not working? Starting to wonder if you were a victim of hype? Asking, “Why is CBD not helping my anxiety?”

Maybe you simply haven’t found the perfect CBD product yet—believe it or not, you can respond very differently to products depending on precisely what’s in them and how they’re made. That’s not even considering any personal differences in how you metabolize CBD!

There’s proof of cannabidiol’s overall effectiveness in maintaining calm and quieting racing thoughts. So, why do some people have a less consistent experience than others?

Before you break up with CBD for good, think about the factors that affect how your body responds to it. That includes:

  • How much you use
  • Where you get your CBD
  • How you take it
  • Whether you use certain medications

In short, because cannabidiol is so popular right now, there are a million options out there. You can get full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate CBD and have a different reaction to each one since their cannabinoid profile is different (cannabinoids are the chemicals that make up the cannabis plant and cause various effects).

If you're asking yourself why CBD does not work for you, the answers could be below:

#1: You’re not using the right dose

The safe dose range for CBD is insanely broad, so there's no such thing as a standard dose. Some people take as little as 20 mg, while up to 1,500 mg per day is considered safe.

Everybody is different, and that means not everyone responds to the same amount. Instead of merely using bodyweight or other standard factors to calculate dosing, you can figure out your perfect CBD dose by titrating.

That means starting at a small dose—say, 20 to 40 mg—and gradually increasing it until you reach a point where the therapeutic benefit is what you want, and there are no or mild side effects. Start low and increase your dose gradually over a few weeks.

It’s also possible that you’re dosing it wrong. If the bottle cites the entire amount of CBD (instead of the amount per drop), it can be tricky to figure out how much to take.

You can figure this out with some simple math. A single drop from a standard medicine dropper is about 0.05mL. That means a 10mL bottle, for example, contains 200 drops of CBD oil. If the product label says 1,000 mg and that number represents the entire bottle, then each drop is a 5 mg dose.

#2: CBD not working? You’re not using the right brand

You should have a go-to CBD brand and make sure it’s reputable. Given CBD's demand, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can’t enforce every rule around hemp products. Unfortunately, this means there is a fair amount of CBD out there that doesn’t meet standards… which is annoying at best, and harmful at worst!

Buying CBD from shady brands means that you don’t know if the cannabidiol proportion is the same as advertised, or even whether your product contains a potentially illegal amount of THC. When a plant has more than 0.3% of this psychoactive compound, it’s classified as marijuana; less than that is considered federally-legal hemp.

Instead of picking a product by chance, go with a brand that:

  • Is honest about where it gets CBD
  • Publishes test results for its products
  • Is open about FDA adherence and compliance

#3: You’re not using the right delivery system

There are so many ways to get CBD into your system! Once this substance is distilled into an extract, it can be added to numerous products, including:

  • Candies and gummies
  • Oils and tinctures
  • Soft gels and capsules
  • Topicals like creams and gels

If you're not feeling CBD's benefits, it could be that the delivery system isn't right for you.

Oils and tinctures are the fastest-acting CBD products besides vaping or smoking—a tincture that’s dripped under the tongue can start working within 15 minutes of use. On the other hand, ingested products—like gummies or soft gels—can take 30 minutes to an hour to take effect.

A quicker-acting CBD product could be a total gamechanger, so think about trying our Fruity Punch CBD tincture!

#4: You’re not using the right type of CBD

Did you know that not all items labeled “CBD” are the same? There are three main types:

  • Broad-spectrum CBD
  • Full-spectrum CBD
  • CBD isolate

Broad-spectrum CBD contains all the compounds—terpenes, flavonoids, and cannabinoids—that you’d expect to find in a cannabis plant, except for THC. Full-spectrum includes all of that, plus THC in small amounts (again, if it’s tested and labeled right). And isolate is simple because it contains nothing but CBD (cannabidiol, to be exact)!

The thing is, those labels matter.

Broad-spectrum CBD is an excellent choice for most people because the cannabinoids and other compounds synergize together to produce the entourage effect, which is an intensified version of the impact you'd expect. That only occurs when you mix different cannabinoids from the plant, so CBD alone (isolate) won’t trigger it.

Full-spectrum CBD can trigger the entourage effect, but it does contain psychoactive THC that you might want to avoid.
